Captain America Brave New World has arrived in theaters, and with it, Marvel finally teased the return of the Avengers.

*Spoilers for Captain America Brave New World follow*

At the start of the movie, President Ross asks Sam Wilson to help him bring back the Avengers. While he’s not interested in answering to the President, Sam realizes by the end of the movie that the world needs the Avengers and asks Joaquin Torres to be the first member.

So, currently, the Avengers consists of Captain America and the Falcon. The question now is who the rest of the team will consist of when Avengers Doomsday comes around. The Multiverse Saga has introduced too many characters to count, making it anyone’s guess. I’ve compiled a list of 5 characters that I believe are the most likely candidates for the team.

This list does not include any members from the Fantastic Four or Thunderbolts since these are separate teams that Kevin Feige said will fight alongside the Avengers. Doctor Strange is also excluded since I don’t think he will be a formal member in the way that Black Widow and Hawkeye were in the original team.

1) Shang-Chi

If this doesn’t happen then Marvel has truly dropped the ball. Shang-Chi is one of the best new characters introduced and he has been completely MIA ever since. It’s been 4 years and there’s been no cameos, no sequel update, and still no confirmation on his role in Avengers Doomsday. Not having characters return has been the biggest problem with the Multiverse Saga and I hope Marvel learned their lesson. He is perhaps the most obvious choice for the team.

Then there’s his post credit scene that hasn’t been touched on since. The rings are calling out to something. Avengers Doomsday feels like the most natural place to pay this off.

2) Spider-Man

This one feels like a given. He’s one of the most popular characters of all time and the Russo Brothers have called him the soul of the franchise.

What’s going to be most interesting to see is how he interacts with the team after Spider-Man No Way Home erased everyone’s minds of Peter Parker. He’s also one of the only characters to interact with variants of himself, making him important in a multiverse-centered story like Avengers Doomsday.

3) Ant-Man

Scott Lang’s relationship with Sam Wilson in the past gives this recruit a lot of potential. It all started in the first Ant-Man film when Sam Wilson’s Falcon tried to stop Scott from stealing from the Avengers compound. It’s a great dynamic that continued into Civil War and beyond. How fun would it be for Scott to have to take orders from Sam Wilson as the new Captain America?

4) The Marvels

I know, I’m cheating with this one by saying three characters, but I don’t want to see Avengers Doomsday without Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel. She’s one of the brightest additions to the MCU and Marvel needs to utilize her more. She’s such a joy to watch on screen and would add a lot to the team dynamic.

Captain Marvel has been one of Marvel’s bigger names as of late, even with The Marvels flopping. She’s more of a defender of other worlds than an Avenger, but she’s probably going to play a large role in Avengers Doomsday with Monica Rambeau trapped in another universe.

5) War Machine

Rhodey’s presence in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and ties to the original Avengers makes me think Sam Wilson will at least send an invitation his way. He has a lot of experience with the team, so it just makes sense. Let’s just hope they don’t acknowledge Secret Invasion.

And this list doesn’t even cover some other potential candidates like Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, Daredevil, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk. You can make an argument for practically anybody to join the team. Let me know what you think of my list and what other characters you think we’ll see join the team.
